The NBU Alumni Association in collaboration with INDRAYUDH ( the most acclaimed Drama & Cultural Organisation of Coochbehar and managed by one of our alumni) organised a Seminar on Nov. 15, 2015 at Coochbehar Film Society Hall at 11 am to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the following legends of Drama, Films and Cultural movements in Bengal in particular and India in general:
1. Bijan Bhattacharjee ( 17/7/1915 - 19/1/1978 )
2. Sambhu Mitra ( 22/8/1915 - 19/5/1997 ).
The initial remarks were delivered by Dr.T.K.Chatterjee, Secretary, NBUAA.
Sri Partha Pratim Mitra, a noted dramatist and actor of Siliguri and an alumnus of NBU delivered a Special Talk on the life of Bijan Bhattacharjee in the context of social upheavles taking place in Bengal after independence and partition as reflected in his legendary creations begining with NABANNA ( 1944). He spoke for one hour. The speech was deeply appreciated by the audience consisting of the alumni of NBU and others. Sri Dipayan Bhattacharjee, Director of INDRAYUDH and a member of the Executive Committee of NBUAA delivered a Special Talk on the life of Sambhu Mitra and his creations in the backdrop of the tumultous socio-cultural changes taking place in Bengal and elsewhere. The hour- long speech mesmerized the audience and made deep impact on each.
Prof. Ananda Gopal Ghosh, retired Professor of History, NBU and a member of the Executive Committee of NBUAA delivered his impressions on the creativity of the two legends before presenting the Vote of Thanks.
Present in the Seminar were Sri Fazlur Rahaman, Dr. Paritosh Biswas, Sri Atanu Choudhury, all members of the Executive Committee of NBUAA .
The Seminar was attended by a large number of cultural activists of Coochbehar , many of who are ex-students of NBU and members of NBUAA.
